The 'Southern Shaolin WeiTo School of Chinese Boxing' is the modern public face of what was inherently a closed school of traditional Chinese martial arts. The custodians of this tradition (see lineage) have all been, and continue to be, expert martial artists with an eye for excellence, a desire to learn and preserve traditional southern Chinese martial arts. The tradition has been interwoven with the southern Chinese monastic (Shaolin) path which has had a profound influence on how the forms are manifest, how we generate power, and why we train.
Traditional Chinese martial arts are a thinking person?s art focused on the development of commitment, focus, intent, compassion, individuality, self reliance, selflessness, duty, honour and discrimination. You might have noticed that fighting has not yet been mentioned. This is because it is not the end but a means. As a means it is a beautiful journey in understanding yourself in physical terms and how you interact with others. In this tradition you will learn different fighting styles (see curriculum below), skills and to fight at different levels and directions, which requires self control, awareness of your opponent and the environment you are in. Finally you must be able to stand and fight without anger, or in an excited state but with a stillness of heart and calmness.
The art embodies a personal development process that promotes physical health and strength. It develops ones ability to manage internal and external conflict and should it be necessary physical conflict. The principles one engages with in this dynamic yoga, helps develop emotional, mental and physical balance in a relaxed state.
A traditional martial art is a hard, frustrating and difficult yet rewarding path. For each of us it is a personal path and we all have to fight our own demons such as laziness, fear, arrogance and ignorance. Those that teach are further along this path and they will help us along the way, but, it is for each individual to engage and walk the path.
As you move through the syllabus you will engage with ever more dynamic principles that with practice and due care can lead you to further personal development.
I've been training with the WeiTo school for over two years and i enjoy it as much as ever! The syllabus is vast and will challenge you physically, mentally and maybe even spiritually. 10/10

I started training at the WEiTo Swindon School in June 2006 and have found its teachings to be the most comprehensive by way of the variety of martial arts systems - empty hand, weapons and its philosophy - that I have come across. There is something in these martial arts for "everyone" and the benefits gained from practising these arts are naturally beneficial to body, mind and spirit - as any member of the WeiTo School will tell you.

A solid martial art with a wide range of skills and weapons; from basic to the advanced and exotic. An excellent functional martial art.
